PRESS RELEASE – Minister of Finances Hykmete Bajrami today visited TAK

The Minister of Finances, Hykmete Bajrami today visited the Tax Administration of Kosovo, whereby she was received by TAK’s management.

General Director of TAK, Ilir Murtezaj, during the meeting informed Minister Bajrami of TAK’s plans for 2020, with particular emphasis on the income trend, which during May have returned to tax normality following the critical period with the pandemics, which as Director Murtezaj emphasised, has affected development of regular activities of TAK, whereby in the months of March and April there was less collection of revenues.

Also, TAK’s director informed Minister Bajrami about the handling of tax debts, for which TAK has obtained positive evaluations by international institutions as well, adding that the situation created by the pandemics has also negatively affected debts. In addition to the results attained, Director Murtezaj also mentioned the challenges constantly faced by the tax administration.

Among others, Director Murtezaj stated that TAK since 12th of March 2020, following the decision of the Ministry of Finances and Transfers, has assisted the Government of the Republic of Kosovo with the measures to prevent COVID-19, by receiving denunciations by the citizens and carrying out inspection of businesses who were misusing the situation created by the Coronavirs to increase prices of basic food and medicinal products. Therefore, in order to accurately implement such decision, TAK has reduced to minimum its regular activities foreseen under the Work Plan for 2020.

Minister Bajrami thanked TAK’s director for the detailed presentation of achievements and challenges faced by the Tax Administration of Kosovo, and also asked them to continue their commitment in achieving TAK objectives, at the same time emphasising that after commencing the implementation of the Economic Recovery Package– namely the measures foreseen for the short-term period, the Ministry will concentrate  to compensate the economic decline as soon as possible, and return the economy to its normal state of play.
