The Tax Administration of Kosovo held its annual media conference today, where the Director General, Mr. Ilir Murtezaj, presented the main achievements and results of TAK during the year 2024.
In his speech, the Director praised this year as extremely successful, emphasizing the continued growth of tax revenues, which have reached figures of up to 950 million euros, or about 100 million euros more than last year. He also informed about the progress made in dealing with tax debts, improving accountability and intensifying measures to combat tax evasion.
In addition to the annual revenues, the TAK Director announced at this conference that the tax institution marks the 25th anniversary of its establishment next month, along with the progress made over all these years, from which 8.3 billion euros have been collected.
“Our unwavering commitment to ensuring tax equity and increasing efficiency in revenue collection has brought tangible results. We have made great progress in implementing measures against tax evasion and have received positive assessments from international institutions for our structural and operational improvements,” said Mr. Murtezaj. He further added that “after good work and high results, what was expected normally comes!” During November of this year, an IMF mission visited TAK to measure its performance. Such missions conduct regular biennial assessments of tax authorities, where in this case, based on the draft Report that we received after the completion of the mission, it results in accepting one of the highest assessments in the history of TAK.
So while in the latest IMF report published in January 2023, TAK was considered the leading country in the Western Balkans for increasing tax revenues, in the 2024 assessment, which is still a draft report and is expected to be made public very soon, according to ISORA measurements, out of 8 indicators measuring tax administrations around the world, 7 out of 8 indicators, TAK is better than tax administrations in developing countries, while in 5 out of 8 indicators it is at the average of developed countries (including EU countries)”.
In addition to the many results mentioned at the conference, the Director of TAK, Mr. Murtezaj, indicated that out of 28,173 operational activities that have been carried out, they have resulted in over 5 million euros in fines, and over 10 thousand completed inspections and controls have yielded 73.9 million euros in taxes, penalties and interest.
He said that as the reason of the great interest of public opinion it was the improvement in tax compliance by singers, who, out of the 2.7 million that were paid in 2023, have declared and paid 3.2 million euros this year. Meanwhile, the gastronomy and hotel sector has increased its declaration from 27.1 million euros to 30.7 million euros.
At the end of the conference, the Director emphasized TAK’s commitment to continue with new projects aimed at improving services for taxpayers and increasing public revenues, thus fulfilling its mission to contribute to the country’s economic development.
The Kosovo Tax Administration thanks all taxpayers for their cooperation and compliance with tax responsibilities, becoming part of joint efforts to build a fairer and more sustainable tax system.
